The project is to develop deep decarbonization scenarios for Indian power sector and identify the emissions peaking timeline followed by net zero emissions timeline.

Given the background of the India’s economic and social development prospect and the region’s potential contribution towards global GHG emissions, the study focuses on developing India’s power sector decarbonization model based on MESSAGEix. The major focus of the model are as follows:

1. Given the plan of growth and development of India given the facts of huge untapped potential, what is the prospect emissions peaking in the coming years in power sector?

2. How India should plan to achieve its goals and targets in the given timeline utilizing its resources efficiently and effectively to achieve the net zero emissions

4. What are the policy measures to create the prospect of net zero emissions including carbon tax, emissions capping and adoption of carbon capture and use technologies and renewable energy.
