India is a country with a wide variety of ecosystems and biodiversity which offer a variety of ecosystem/ biodiversity services, that grants natural advantages for humans. India offers a number of such examples of ecosystem services:

Water Regulation: The Himalayan mountain range in India provides important water regulation services, as it serves as the source of major rivers such as the Ganges, Indus, and Brahmaputra. Wetlands, rivers, and lakes also provide important water regulation services by storing and filtering water.

Biodiversity: India is one of the world’s mega-biodiverse countries, with a wide variety of ecosystems and species. Biodiversity provides many ecosystem services, including pollination, pest control, and genetic resources for food and medicine.

Carbon Sequestration: Forests in India sequester carbon, helping to mitigate climate change. The country’s forests also provide important ecosystem services such as timber, fuelwood, and non-timber forest products.

Fertility of the Soil: In India, mangroves and wetlands assist preserve soil fertility and stop erosion, while agricultural ecosystems produce food and fibre.

Cultural Services: India’s unique cultural legacy is linked to its ecosystems since so many of its customs and beliefs are closely related to the natural world. Recreational activities like hiking, and ecotourism are also made possible by ecosystems.
