Workshop on “Assessment of the Climate Finance Facility of West Bengal State” Concludes Successfully

The Celestial Earth, in collaboration with the Finance Department, Government of West Bengal, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in India, successfully organized a two-day workshop on the “Assessment of the Climate Finance Facility of West Bengal State.”

The workshop marked a significant milestone in advancing the understanding and operationalization of climate finance mechanisms within the state. The in-depth assessment study was conducted by Team The Celestial Earth with exceptional efficiency and professionalism under the able guidance of Dr. Anindya Bhattacharya, Executive Director.

The Celestial Earth extends its heartfelt gratitude to Shri Pawan Kadyan, Shri Abhishek Acharya, and Shri Ashish Chaturvedi for their invaluable support throughout the project and during the workshop.

During the event, Dr. Tania Bhattacharya, Founder & CEO of The Celestial Earth, chaired a session on “The Role of the Private Sector in Climate Financing.” The session featured insightful discussions with distinguished panelists — Mr. Deb Mukherjee, Former President of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ms. Neha Dhanuka Agrawal, Vice President of Vikram Solar.

Dr. Bhattacharya emphasized that when investment risks are mitigated and returns are made more predictable, the private sector demonstrates strong enthusiasm toward climate finance — moving beyond conventional ESG compliance and CSR-based contributions.

The workshop served as an important platform for fostering collaboration among key stakeholders, policymakers, and private entities, reinforcing the collective commitment to strengthening the climate finance ecosystem in West Bengal and across India.
