In a significant development for India’s energy sector, the PyPSA open-source model for Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) has successfully completed its training session, marking a major milestone in the country’s renewable energy and electric vehicle (EV) expansion planning. This is the first time in India that a PyPSA distribution-level model has been developed and trained, with a focus on integrating renewable energy sources and planning for the growth of electric vehicles.
After a year of rigorous development and refinement, the model is set to help optimize energy distribution systems, promote sustainable solutions, and drive the adoption of clean energy at the distribution level.
A training workshop: “PyPSA for Distribution System Planning” conducted for the Distribution officials of KSEBL, organized by GIZ and expertly delivered by Grant Thornton and Celestial Earth, during 12-13 February 2025, at Kerala.
Special recognition goes to Trina Som and Chandrakala Devi Sanjenbam for their leadership and hard work in making this groundbreaking achievement possible. Their efforts have been pivotal in the successful training of the model, which is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of India’s energy landscape.
The success of this training session is seen as a significant step toward building a more sustainable and energy-efficient future for India, with further efforts underway to expand the model’s impact.
